All aerobic activity is good for you because it stimulates and strengthens your heart and lungs, improving your body’s use of oxygen.
The heart is a muscle and needs exercise just like the rest of your body.
There are lots of things you can do do keep your Heart healthy and in good shape.
- Take a walk.
- Go for a swim.
- Ride a bike, outside or a stationary one in front of your TV!
- Try to keep your weight in the normal range.
- Quit smoking! One year after you quit you cut your risk of coronary heart disease by 50%
Walking is a great way to be active, you can do it everywhere, it’s cheap and if you have a Walking Buddy, you are more likely to stick with it and it’s a little social break in your day.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and start slowly, building up gradually to at least 30 minutes a day every day if possible.
Make your fitness program a habit by doing it at the same time every day. Make it fun by listening to music or watching TV. Vary what you do so you don’t get bored and give up! Do different change the route you walk.
